A great view of the New Years eve fireworks :)
this is an old building, the corridors look dated however the rooms were refurbished, a bit funky interior design but exceptionally clean and well presented. I travel a lot for work and stay in city hotels mainly Auckland and Wellington, they cost the same or more and often appear to have not been cleaned for weeks. Also, the staff were friendly and efficient unlike the city hotels mentioned above :(

Handy location, nice staff, comfortable beds; let down, for the $$, by dated style and scruffy area
Good location; staff helpful and friendly; room spacious and clean; beds comfortable (once the bedding was loosened up enough to get into them - why do hotel beds have to be made up in that way?); shower good and powerful.
While the hotel is well-located for town and other amenities, the car park and surrounding buildings, which appear to be associated with the hotel, are scruffy. The reception area is quite inviting but otherwise the whole place looks a bit tired. Once out of the lift on the 6th floor it's like going back a few decades - the carpet and other decor is dated, the paintwork is worn, the lighting dim. The room was clean but old-fashioned in style and decoration. There was no air conditioning. The balcony is too small to be useful and, at 6th floor level, feels dangerously unprotected. I expected the $30 breakfast offering to be more than the pre-scrambled eggs (which had burnt bits among them), sausages etc being kept warm in a steamer, toast or cereals - in other words a DIY proposition. We changed our minds and went to a nearby cafe where we enjoyed personally-prepared eggs benedict and proper coffee for less than $30 each. Generally it was like being in a 6-storey downmarket motel. It did not meet the expectations I had for a brand like Copthorne and for the mid-range price I paid.
